Inventory Software Migration Checklist: Compare Workflows Before You Switch

An inventory software migration succeeds when your stock and operational records still make sense after the move. Use this checklist to evaluate an alternative to Cin7 Core, Cin7 Omni, Brightpearl, Sellercloud, or another platform with the same evidence, rather than judging the demo by its appearance.

1. Write down the workflows that must survive

List your channels and regions, warehouses, SKU and variant rules, bundles, suppliers, carriers, and accounting connections. Separate essential operations from features that would simply be helpful. Have each vendor demonstrate the required action with a representative example.

  • Include channel-specific listing and fulfillment requirements.
  • For a Cin7 evaluation, record whether you use Core or Omni and name any manufacturing, EDI, or 3PL modules that must be replaced.
  • Identify which system owns stock, pricing, product cost, and financial reporting.
  • Record the people responsible for exceptions and ongoing connector maintenance.

2. Reconcile the inventory model

Select a small catalog sample that includes an ordinary SKU, a variant, an item with reserved units, and a product with incoming stock. Compare identifiers, locations, on-hand units, reservations, available stock, and cost. Resolve mismatches before importing the full catalog.

A matching stock total is not enough when quantities are assigned to the wrong SKU or location. Keep a reconciliation worksheet that names the source record, destination record, expected value, and reviewer.

3. Walk through an order and a purchasing exception

Import an order from a supported channel and follow its reservation, fulfillment, tracking, fees, and profit. Include a refund or shipping exception so the demonstration covers the work that creates investigation time.

For purchasing, use demand, current stock, incoming units, and supplier lead time to review a proposed quantity. Create a purchase order and record a partial receipt. Confirm ordered, received, and remaining quantities stay consistent.

4. Compare the written implementation scope

Request subscription pricing at your order volume, onboarding costs, connector and support charges, data-import scope, and any additional planning or accounting tools. Name the owner of each configuration task.

Compare the time your operators need to find a failed update, explain a purchase, or reconcile an order. A lower subscription cannot compensate for an essential workflow that remains untested.

5. Define a controlled cutover and rollback

Before changing live channel ownership, agree on how you will capture final stock, handle orders in flight, reconcile open purchase orders, and avoid duplicate processing. Record the acceptance checks and who signs them off.

Keep the existing platform available until the required operations reconcile. Define how you will restore the prior integration configuration if the cutover does not pass its checks. Use a limited pilot when your workflow supports it.

6. Bring the evidence to your Inskeep walkthrough

Bring your channel list and a representative product, order, refund, and purchase decision. The guided demo can establish which workflows fit Inskeep and which need further validation. A 14-day assisted trial is requested separately and begins when the manually provisioned workspace is ready.
